How I Use AI
Artificial intelligence (AI) took a big leap forward with the advent of Chat GPT in late 2022. Today, AI is everywhere, from content writing to advertising.
Many in marketing and creative industries are worried about how this technology will affect the future of their business and livelihoods. This is a valid worry, given how companies have admitted to using AI in creating content. That said, AI isn’t replacing humans any time soon. Humans are still needed to oversee the technology and make sure it doesn’t produce poor quality content.
Let’s look at one recent example: Coca Cola proudly stated their 2024 holiday commercial was created with Real Magic AI. In one scene, the famous red trucks have a misspelled version of the brand name (Coca Coola). While the commercial is visually stunning, there are areas where it trips into the uncanny valley, throwing viewers out of the scene. Clearly, humans didn’t put enough eyes on the model’s output before launching the commercial. It was widely panned and pointed to as an example of how AI should NOT be used.
OK, you’re saying, that’s great. But how do YOU use it, Kristin?
Well, to start, this post is entirely my own thoughts and words. And that’s a promise I make to you as a client: Any content I write for publication for your brand will be generated by me, a real human. But that doesn’t mean I won’t use AI to help speed along the process. Here are few ways I’ve utilized AI in my content creation recently:
· Question creation: If you ask me to interview a person and don’t have a list of questions you want me to ask, AI will help generate in-depth and thought-provoking questions. Every question is reviewed by me before being incorporated in an interview.
· Article analysis: Do you have a press release as an idea for a more in-depth story? I will read and highlight key points, but I also ask AI to review the piece with an eye to the story you want me to write.
· SEO differentiation: When creating similar pages that need to stand out to Google’s bots, AI is a great tool to speed up differentiating content, whether that’s rearranging structure or pulling out slightly different key points from the content I’ve already written. This is another step where I edit the output to make sure it aligns with your goals.
· Grade-level alignment: Are you looking for content written on a certain grade level? My writing lands around ninth grade or higher. If you need a lower grade level for a piece of content, I ask AI to make suggestions on how to make the content more accessible.
As AI continues to grow and evolve, I’m sure I will find more ways to incorporate the technology into the content creation process—as will you and others in this field. For now, though, rest assured that all final products that reach your desk have been drafted, edited, and edited again by a human.
With that, I’m excited to announce I’m now offering AI editing services. If you’re already using AI to generate content for your business, I’ll review it to make sure it sounds human and is hitting your key message.
